Peak Skarv 1 is lead vessel in four-ship series entering North European shortsea market
Skarv Shipping Solutions has taken delivery of its first vessel, Peak Skarv 1, marking the debut of a new shortsea shipping series tailored for the North European market.
The vessel was officially registered under the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS), with Captain Oleksiy Bondarenko and crew raising the Norwegian flag upon completion of formalities.
Peak Skarv 1 is the lead vessel in a planned series of four ships. The vessel features a deadweight of 7,900 tonnes, an overall length of 108.2 metres, and a beam of 18.1 metres. The company anticipates the design will offer strong commercial performance in regional shortsea trades.
The series has been designed by LMG Marin, drawing on the operational expertise of Peak CSL Group AS and Grieg Edge, with additional input from SSY Global (formerly Grieg Shipbrokers).
“These ships are far more climate-friendly than what we see in the short-sea market in Europe today, with a very low fuel consumption. They are not what we imagine is the final climate solution for shipping, but they are a giant step in the right direction,” said Skarv Shipping Solutions CEO, Jan Øivind Svardal.
The vessel features an optimised engine configured for future operation on ammonia or methanol, alongside a battery package and shore power capability. The design also incorporates peak shaving via a dynamic propeller drive system and a high-voltage switchboard prepared for integration of future green power solutions, including fuel cells and expanded battery capacity.
Following delivery, the vessel will load its first cargo before commencing its voyage to Europe, where it is expected to arrive ahead of the summer season.
“We wish the crew of PEAK SKARV 1 all the best and safe sailing on the Maiden Voyage. We owe big thanks to our team and partners for their hard work and collective efforts in reaching this major milestone for Skarv Shipping,” said Jan Øivind Svardal.
