On Wednesday, 21 August 2024, one month after the delivery of the Olympic Boreas, Ulstein Verft launched the second Construction Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) for Olympic; the Olympic Notos. Both vessels are built on the innovative TWIN X-STERN solution, a concept described as a ‘4-wheel-drive’ for the seas.
“It has been a few hectic months since the arrival of the hull in May, but in a structured fashion”, states project manager Helge Torvik at Ulstein Verft. “The experience from the first project is very valuable for us, and I am satisfied with what we have accomplished so far”.
The project manager explains that the Olympic Notos has gradually been transformed into another state-of-the-art vessel during her stay in the covered dock hall. Protected from the weather, the outfitting work such as piping and mechanical installations, accommodation work, electrical installations, and external paintwork has been performed according to plan. The next phase is the commissioning stage, which has already started.
The contract between Olympic and Ulstein was signed in 2022 and includes the design, engineering and construction of two Construction Service Operation Vessel CSOVs at Ulstein Verft. The hulls are built by the Crist yard in Poland. The vessels are powered by diesel-electric propulsion with variable speed and large battery energy storage systems. Ulstein Power & Control has been contracted to deliver an extended power and automation package, including a large battery supply.
The vessels are based on the ULSTEIN SX222 design from Ulstein Design & Solutions AS. They have a length of 89.6m and a beam of 19.2m and accommodate 126 people in 91 cabins, all cabins with daylight.
The hull shape and hybrid propulsion system will ensure high operational performance and sea keeping and substantially reduced environmental footprint.
Olympic, based in Norway, has a fleet that operates in the subsea service and renewable energy markets. Ulstein Group is a group of maritime companies headquartered in Ulsteinvik, Norway.
