Port of London Authority’s new 17m Thames Spirit boosts multi-mission capability for response, diving, and survey work on the Thames.
Alicat Workboats, is a specialised ship builder based in Great Yarmouth, England, has delivered the PLA Thames Spirit, a new multi-role catamaran oil-spill and dive-support vessel, to the Port of London Authority for operations out of Gravesend on the River Thames.
The 17-metre vessel — featuring a 6.7-metre beam and a 16 m² moonpool. Designed by Chartwell Marine Ltd, the vessel is powered by twin Scania DI13 engines driving Kongsberg Maritime S36 waterjets, delivering a 20-knot cruising speed and sprint capability up to 24 knots.
The delivery marks a significant milestone for the PLA’s expanding operational fleet, strengthening its capability in pollution response, diving, and multi-purpose marine support. Alicat’s team extended thanks to the PLA for its trust and partnership throughout the build.
