All American Marine announce they signed a contract to construct a state-of-the-art 65-foot catamaran for the Los Angeles Port Police. Teknicraft Design in Auckland, New Zealand, designed this cutting-edge dive and patrol vessel, which represents a significant leap forward in maritime law enforcement capabilities for the LA Port Police.
The new vessel, measuring 65’ x 24’, is an aluminum catamaran is specifically designed to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the LA Port Police and will add operational flexibility to their existing fleet. It will employ the latest hull design improvements from Teknicraft Design, providing improvements in fuel efficiency and vessel performance characteristics beyond what was initially achieved with the All American Marine built dive vessel that was delivered in 2012 to the LA Port Police. This vessel is engineered to operate in challenging conditions along the southern California coast, in both inland and nearshore waters. With the inclusion of the Teknicraft “eco-bow” design, this patrol vessel can maintain ride stability in exposed waters, with a cruising speed of 20 knots and a maximum speed of approximately 25 knots. This advanced design ensures optimal performance even in the most demanding marine environments.

The vessel is designed to meet the rigorous standards of the U.S. Coast Guard Subchapter T regulations, ensuring the highest levels of safety and compliance. The vessel’s key features include twin Cummins QSM11-715 engines with fixed-pitch propellers, providing a combined power output of 705 bhp @ 2500 rpm. The catamaran will also be equipped with a range of sophisticated systems and equipment, including:
- Advanced Navigation and Communication Systems: The helm station will be outfitted with state-of-the-art navigation and communication technology to ensure precise and reliable operations.
- Enhanced Safety Features: The vessel will be fitted with comprehensive fire suppression systems, life-saving equipment, and robust structural integrity to ensure the safety of the crew and passengers.
- Specialized Dive Operations Equipment: The vessel will include an A-frame for deploying and retrieving advanced SONAR and Remotely Controlled Underwater Vehicle along with a dive compressor foundation and storage solutions for diving gear.
- Advanced Hull Design with inclusion of the Eco-Bow: The innovative hull design by Teknicraft ensures reduced drag, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced passenger comfort, making it ideal for extended patrol missions.

The vessel will be constructed at All American Marine’s facilities in Bellingham, WA, with the final delivery scheduled to the LA Port Police dock in Los Angeles, CA. The project will involve extensive sea trials and rigorous testing to ensure all systems and components meet the specified performance criteria. The Los Angeles Port Police ensure the safety and security of the Port of Los Angeles by enforcing laws, maintaining port security, overseeing maritime safety, and protecting the environment. They respond to emergencies, conduct safety inspections, and engage with the community to promote security awareness. Their role is critical in safeguarding the port’s infrastructure, facilitating secure maritime commerce, and ensuring the well-being of port personnel and visitors.
