ASL GRP Raises the Bar in Ballistic Protection for Outboards

Upgraded ballistic outboard covers are designed to improve vessel survivability during defence and security operations.

ASL GRP has unveiled upgraded ballistic protection outboard covers, delivering enhanced levels of protection for marine and defence applications. The latest designs now incorporates new Infra-Red Reflective (IRR) coating materials alongside MOLLE system integration, marking a first-of-its-kind capability within the marine and defence sectors.

Engineered to withstand projectile impact and fragmentation from small-arms fire and blast events, the modular armour solutions are removable, flexible and custom-manufactured to suit specific vessel requirements. The covers provide a critical additional layer of defence, significantly enhancing vessel survivability in high-risk operational environments. The covers ensure the primary propulsion system remains intact and functional under fire and fragmentation.

With a strong order book into 2026, ASL GRP’s ballistic outboard engine covers combine advanced composite engineering with a practical, operational design to maintain essential vessel mobility, particularly for critical maritime operations. A key advantage, each ballistic outboard cover is custom made to suit client requirements, including the engine make, model and size. ASL GRP can offer two levels of ballistic protection plus defence against high-velocity fragmentation.

To further enhance functionality and meet the needs of operators, ASL GRP’s new covers can also be manufactured with optional IRR coating. This IRR coating reduces engine visibility when viewed through night-vision or IR-sensitive equipment.

The material make-up of the outboard covers naturally offers minimisation of the engine noise during operation. For users who require additional on-mission functionality, the covers can be supplied with MOLLE webbing. The heavy-duty nylon system, allows essential tools and accessories to be secured directly to the exterior of the outboard cover.

ASL GRP’s customisation ensures optimal fit and performance, without restricting access or interfering with functionality. The covers are entirely removable. Operators can install or remove the cover in seconds, without making any changes to the original equipment or the existing engine configuration.

The ballistic outboard covers can be manufactured in a choice of colours including black, grey and camouflage finishes.

ASL GRP’s ballistic outboard covers are an intelligent investment for fast-patrol vessels, RIBs, inflatables and other tactical crafts with an outboard engine.
