Boluda Acquires Finnish Towage and Icebreaking Company

Boluda Towage announce the acquisition of Yxpila Hinaus-Bogsering (YHB), a Finnish family-owned company providing harbour towage and ice-breaking services. This acquisition consolidates Boluda Towage ‘s presence in Northern Europe and marks its entry into the Scandinavian market, advancing its strategic expansion in the region.

Operating in the Finnish port of Kokkola for over 40 years, Yxpila Hinaus-Bogsering has built a strong reputation for reliable maritime services. The acquisition allows Boluda to strengthen its towage and ice-breaking capabilities in the Gulf of Bothnia, an area critical to maritime traffic during harsh winter months, further expanding its network of operations across Europe.

YHB will add to Boluda Towage all its experience at the forefront of towing operations in the extreme conditions of the Baltic, where ice and low temperatures require the knowledge and expertise of expert crews to perform manoeuvers safely and efficiently.

Boluda Towage further consolidates its presence on the coasts of Northern Europe and enters the Scandinavian market to serve its customers in the Gulf of Bothnia, operating in the ports of Kokkola, Vaasa, Raahe and Kemi. The company will add 6 vessels to its fleet, five of them icebreakers.

Vicente Boluda Fos, president of Boluda, has stated that: “This purchase is a further step in our consolidation in Northern Europe, a complex market where the experience and expertise of the crews are key to carry out towing and marine salvage operations in extreme conditions. In addition, we are opening the Scandinavian market, providing coverage to our customers in the northernmost part of the Baltic Sea”.

The Kokkola docks have grown significantly in the last decade, becoming one of the largest logistics facilities in Finland with special relevance for the mining industry, as well as for dry bulk cargo, chemicals and timber.
