Marine engineering firm Buoyant Works has unveiled Slidex, latest evolution of the adjustable step extension system for Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs), setting a new standard for safety and operational efficiency in offshore wind turbine transfers. The system, which premiered at Seawork International and Global Offshore Wind 2025, is already attracting significant interest from leading offshore wind operators.
Buoyant Works Slidex enables safe, on-the-fly step length adjustment while at sea, accommodating varying boat-to-ladder distances across different wind farms. From a neutral starting position of -50mm, a single crew member can quickly and securely extend the unit to 50mm, 150mm, or 250mm. This adaptability ensures seamless transfers and minimizes downtime caused by misalignment between Crew Transfer Vessels and ladder.
Designed with crew safety as a top priority, Slidex step extension system employs a robust locking mechanism and integrated sliding rails. This allows adjustments to be made directly from the vessel deck, eliminating the need for personnel to operate at the bow’s leading edge—significantly reducing exposure to potential hazards. When not in use, Slidex retracts to its neutral position, minimizing the risk of collision damage during transit.
