System engineered for electric tug operations over a 25-year lifespan
Echandia, a leading supplier of maritime battery systems, has secured an order to deliver a battery system for an electric tug operating in the Port of Singapore. Th3 MWh system is designed for a minimum operational lifespan of 25 years and will support Singapore’s broader ambition to fully electrify its harbour craft fleet by 2030.
The contract was signed with PaxOcean Group, a subsidiary of Singapore-based Kuok Maritime Group, with an option for an additional battery system, reflecting growing demand for long-life, high-performance energy storage solutions in the harbour towage segment.
“The electrification of maritime transport in Singapore is really gaining momentum, and it’s important for us at Echandia to be part of this transition. This project not only strengthens our presence in Asia but also solidifies Echandia’s role as a global leader in the transition to zero-emission maritime solutions“, says Torbjörn Bäck, CEO at Echandia
Echandia was selected for this project because of the long lifespan and proven reliability of its LTO battery system, which stands out in the maritime industry. The battery system is designed to last the entire lifetime of the tug, eliminating the need for replacements and ensuring a very low total cost of ownership. Since the battery system experiences minimal degradation over time, it provides predictable performance and simplifies planning and management of the tug’s daily operations.
“The combination of durability and operational efficiency played a key role in securing this contract, as customers seek solutions that not only meet but exceed the rigorous requirements of modern shipping and sustainability goals”, Torbjörn Bäck continues.
Echandia has rapidly grown to become one of the world’s leading maritime battery system providers, having sold over 100 systems for electrification projects globally.
