Edda Wind, a leading provider of offshore wind farm services, announces the successful delivery of its new Commissioning Service Operational Vessel (CSOV), “Vestri Enabler”, from Gondan Shipbuilders. The vessel was officially handed over on Thursday, November 14, 2024, with a naming ceremony following on Friday, November 15.
The traditional ceremony took place in Gijón, Spain. Lady Sponsor is Danielle Baron, Global Head of Energy & Real Assets, Crédit Agricole CIB.
Vestri comes from Nordic mythology and represents one of the four characters (Sudri, Nordri, Vestri and Austri) holding up the sky after it was made by the Gods from the skull of Ymir. Vestri Enabler is the third vessel in a series of four sister vessels from Gondan and follows Nordri Enabler and Sudri Enabler which were delivered in September 2023 and July 2024 respectively.
Vestri Enabler will commence operation immediately following testing and mobilisation in the UK on a contract with a duration of four months plus options.
Vestri Enabler and her sister vessels are designed to set a new standard in the offshore wind market. Every effort has been made in the design to maximize the efficiency of operations in the wind farm. In addition, Vestri Enabler is prepared for running emission-free operations with a hydrogen-based propulsion system (LOHC). The vessel will serve as mother vessel for wind turbine technicians as they perform commissioning and maintenance work on offshore wind turbines. The Commissioning Service Operational Vessel (CSOV) is 88.3 in length and can accommodate up to 120 persons in total. The vessel, designed by the Norwegian firm Salt Ship Design.
“I want to thank everyone contributing to making this day so special. Thank you to Gondan Shipbuilders for their effort in building this vessel, and same to all others who have worked on this project. Also, a big thank you to Danielle Baron for doing us the honour of being the Lady Sponsor”, says CEO in Edda Wind Kenneth Walland.
