Hefring Marine – The Marine Intelligence Company

Hefring Marine is an Icelandic maritime company building the intelligence layer for professional vessel operations. Founded in 2019 in Reykjavik, the company develops IMAS (Intelligent Marine Assistance System), a hardware-enabled physical AI platform that delivers real-time decision support at the helm and fleet-wide intelligence on shore.

Operators using IMAS have recorded up to 20% reduction in fuel consumption and up to 87% reduction in harmful wave slam impacts. The platform turns raw operational data into speed guidance calibrated to live sea conditions, predictive impact avoidance, fuel optimisation analytics, data-driven crew training and performance review, and preventative maintenance intelligence.

IMAS hardware is plug-and-play, vessel-agnostic, and operates independently of internet connectivity, making it suited to the full range of workboat operations from crew transfer and pilotage to offshore energy and fisheries.

With more than 1.5 million nautical miles of operational data logged and over 85,000 trips recorded worldwide, the system is proven across demanding real-world conditions.

IMAS is deployed across defence, civil security and search and rescue, and commercial fleets. Customers include the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (Redningsselskapet), the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR), Nederlands Loodswezen (Dutch Pilots), and vessel builders such as SAFE Boats International. Hefring Marine was selected for the NATO DIANA Challenge Programme 2026 and is an approved integration partner with Raymarine.

SafetySpeed delivers real-time, AI-powered speed guidance that responds to changing sea conditions as they happen. The system processes vessel motion, wave impacts, and acceleration data through edge AI to recommend the maximum safe operating speed, while simultaneously evaluating multiple course and speed scenarios to forecast impact probability before events occur. Operators receive continuous feedback on vibration levels and developing risk at the helm, enabling corrections that avoid harmful impacts altogether.

SafetySpeed operates without internet dependency. For fleets preparing for Workboat Code 3 compliance, it provides auditable, time-stamped evidence of responsible operating practices.

EcoSpeed analyses real-time sea conditions, engine load, and vessel behaviour to calculate the most fuel-efficient operating speed for prevailing conditions.

The system continuously adapts its recommendations throughout the voyage, balancing fuel savings against operational requirements. Customers using EcoSpeed have recorded up to 20% reduction in fuel consumption. Trip-by-trip fuel analytics enable fleet managers to benchmark performance across vessels and crew, supporting cost reduction and alignment with decarbonisation targets. For operators in offshore energy, crew transfer, and pilotage, EcoSpeed turns fuel management from guesswork into a data-driven discipline.

IMAS provides real-time feedback during operations and structured post-trip review for crew development. At the helm, operators receive live AI speed guidance and g-force monitoring, building safer habits through immediate, contextual feedback rather than classroom theory. On shore, fleet managers access 3D trip playback, captain performance ranking, and behavioural analytics to identify training needs from real operational data. Geofencing alerts and threshold notifications reinforce operational discipline across the fleet. For organisations managing mixed-experience crews or scaling new operator onboarding, IMAS turns every trip into a training opportunity

ReadyState monitors engine health, system performance, and equipment trends across the fleet, generating predictive alerts before failures occur. The system tracks engine hours, battery status, oil temperature, pressure, and other key parameters, identifying patterns that signal developing issues. Fleet managers receive maintenance intelligence through IMAS Console, enabling planned interventions that reduce unscheduled downtime and extend asset life. For operators managing vessels in hard-to-reach offshore locations or demanding operational cycles, ReadyState shifts maintenance from reactive to proactive, lowering lifecycle costs and keeping vessels mission-ready.
