Pelagic Partners has celebrated a key milestone in its commitment to innovation and sustainability with the launch of the Pelagic Walu, a Hybrid Electric, Methanol-Ready Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV), at Cochin Shipyard Limited in India on 18 October 2025. The launch marks a major step forward for the offshore sector, showcasing a new generation of vessels designed to deliver greater efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and improved comfort for technicians on board.
The Pelagic Walu represents a practical step forward in the companies’ commitment to supporting the global energy transition. Designed to meet the demanding operational requirements of offshore commissioning and service, the vessel’s hybrid electric and methanol-ready design underscores Pelagic Partners’ focus on reducing carbon emissions while maintaining optimal performance and reliability. With its sturdy hull now completed, Pelagic Walu has entered the outfitting phase, bringing it closer to joining our fleet where it will support commissioning operations and service offshore platforms in challenging marine environments.
At the ceremony, Andre Groeneveld, Managing Director of Pelagic Wind Services, expressed gratitude and confidence, describing the launch as “a moment to turn the page of challenges and set sail toward success. This launch marks a practical step ahead with the CSOV half-complete, her hull is robust, and ready for the outfitting phase embodying the potential for reliable offshore service once realised. As owners, we are committed to adding her to our fleet, where she will support commissioning operations, servicing wind farms and platforms and deliver the efficiency we expect in harsh offshore environments.”
Pelagic Partners remains committed to the development of a new generation of Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) built on the principles of environmental responsibility, operational excellence, and resilience. The Pelagic Walu exemplifies this commitment, reflecting the company’s focus on shaping the future of offshore operations through advanced vessel design and sustainable technologies, contributing to a more responsible, efficient, and forward-looking maritime industry—key pillars that reinforce Pelagic Partners’ position as a trusted global leader in advancing cleaner energy and sustainable shipping
After its grand keel laying took place in December 2024, the recent launch of CSOV Pelagic Walu marks a significant leap forward in sustainable off-shore support. Measuring 93 meters in length and 19.6 meters in breadth, the vessel is purpose-built to support the commissioning, installation, and maintenance of offshore platforms in some of the world’s most challenging marine environments.
Pelagic Walu combines hybrid-electric propulsion, methanol-ready main engines, and large 2,800kWh lithium-ion battery systems to dramatically reduce fuel consumption and emissions during operations. These technologies enable flexible power management, lower noise, and improved efficiency, contributing to Pelagic Partners’ long-term vision of zero-emission vessel operations.
The Dynamic Positioning (DP2) system and motion-compensated walk-to-work gangway further enhance safety and operability, allowing offshore technicians to transfer securely and efficiently even in rough sea conditions.
