Repeat order follows strong winter performance of the Biscayne Bay Pilots’ first Interceptor 48 pilot boat
Safehaven Marine has been awarded a contract to construct a second Interceptor 48 pilot boat for the Port of Miami, strengthening the Irish builder’s growing presence in the U.S. pilotage sector.
The order comes after the successful introduction of the pilot boat MIAMI, the Biscayne Bay Pilots’ first Safehaven Marine Interceptor 48, delivered in October last year. The vessel has since proven her capability through a challenging winter season.
“She’s a great pilot boat, Frank. Blowing hard all night with 40 knots and 3-metre seas, she’s really stable and predictable undertaking pilot transfers in rough seas. All our pilots and crew are really enjoying her — it’s nice to have such a safe boat. She’s better than all our other boats in bad weather”
Scheduled for delivery in early 2027, the new vessel joins a busy orderbook at Safehaven Marine. The yard currently has pilot boats under construction for Coruna (Spain), Montevideo (Uruguay), and Blyth (UK), alongside a recently launched Pilot 48 now en route to Newport in the USA.
