Rockabill Marine Design (RMD), a specialist in bespoke workboat design, reaffirms its commitment to hands-on, client-driven collaboration with a simple philosophy: “When you work with us, you’re working directly with the designers shaping your vessel.“
This approach has cemented the company’s reputation for delivering practical, innovative, and purpose-built vessels while fostering long-term partnerships across the maritime industry.
Built on Real Experience
RMD design workboats that deliver. From the 15m Workboat, built tough for offshore support, to their 25m Mussel Harvester that’s redefining what’s possible in the sector, the vessels are crafted with purpose. The 20m Kelp Harvester also represents a major step forward in marine operations, designed for efficiency and reliability in demanding conditions.
The 9m RIB and 12m RIB are built for multi-role applications, handling everything from crew transport to emergency response. Practical, reliable, and designed to take a beating — because that’s what workboats are meant to do.
They also work on specialist projects, including autonomous vessels and regulatory compliance for Irish MSO requirements.
Leading in Marine Autonomy
While much of our work remains under NDA, it’s no secret that RMD is leading the charge in autonomous vessel design. They have been heavily involved in some of the most advanced projects in marine autonomy — and while they can’t share everything just yet, we will be hearing more soon.
One project they can talk about is the SXX4, a collaborative design with JDMI Autonomous Marine Systems. The SXX4 represents a step forward in USV technology with enhanced agility and increased power output, early tuning and calibration have already shown promising results. This is just one part of their work in marine autonomy. They are currently engaged in two other autonomous projects — each tailored to different use cases in separate sectors. For now, the details are locked away under NDAs, but when the time is right, they will be sharing what’s possible.
Why Rockabill Marine Design?
RMD not just designers — they are part of the process. You can call Ruairí Grimes or the design team anytime to talk through specs, requirements, or just to get a feel for where things are. They believe that great boats come from real conversations and a commitment to seeing it through properly.
They also see the design through the build process, working alongside some of the best boatyards in the business. Their strong relationships with these yards mean we’re there for the entire journey — from the first weld to final sea trials. If something needs adjusting or challenges arise, they are right there to help get it sorted.
