Safehaven Marine has launched Ederra 8, an 18-metre Interceptor 60 pilot boat built for the MVD Pilots Association in Montevideo, Uruguay.
The vessel is the third pilot boat Safehaven Marine has built for the Montevideo pilots and the fourth vessel supplied to the organisation overall. The latest delivery follows the Ederra 6 and Ederra 7, two Interceptor 48 pilot boats delivered in 2022, which have been operating successfully with the pilots over recent years.
The company’s relationship with the Montevideo pilots dates back to 2020, when Safehaven Marine delivered Belgrano, establishing a fleet of Safehaven pilot boats operating in the port.
Powered by twin Volvo Penta 750hp engines, Ederra 8 is the fastest pilot boat Safehaven Marine has built to date, achieving an operational speed of more than 30 knots.
Despite its 18-metre hull and high-speed capability, the Interceptor 60 has also been designed to deliver strong fuel efficiency. At a cruising speed of 24 knots, Ederra 8 consumes approximately 168 litres of fuel per hour.
The combination of speed, efficiency and proven Interceptor hull performance provides the MVD Pilots Association with a high-performance platform for pilot transfer operations in the demanding conditions encountered around Montevideo.
The delivery further strengthens Safehaven Marine’s relationship with the Uruguayan pilot organisation and adds a larger, faster vessel to its existing Interceptor fleet operating in Montevideo.
