Hybrid propulsion system expected to reduce emissions and extend engine overhaul intervals
Servogear has signed a contract with Oma Baatbyggeri for the delivery of a controllable pitch propeller (CPP) hybrid propulsion system for a new 39-metre sightseeing catamaran being built for Rødne Fjord Cruise, Norway’s largest family-owned high-speed passenger boat operator.
The award builds on an established partnership between the two companies and will see the vessel outfitted with a hybrid propulsion system. The setup combines twin Rolls-Royce, mtu 10V2000 M72 diesel engines with Servogear’s Ecoflow Propulsor system.

Servogear’s delivery scope includes its latest HD295 PTI V gearboxes and two 1.4-metre propellers. The Ecoflow Propulsor system integrates all propulsion components into a single optimised unit, improving the conversion of engine power into thrust.
The catamaran is being built for the sightseeing segment and will accommodate approximately 300 passengers. The hybrid propulsion setup is expected to lower the vessel’s environmental footprint while also extending time between overhauls for the mtu engines.
The Rolls-Royce, mtu engines will be supplied separately by BOS Power Norway under contract with Oma Baatbyggeri.
Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for April 2027.
