The multi-vessel agreement strengthens SHM Solutions’ position as a supplier of integrated deck equipment solutions for next-generation vessels
AQS and Salthammer Båtbyggeri have announced plans to construct four new Coastern 28 zH vessels designed by Tomra Engineering. SHM Solutions has secured the contract to serve as total supplier of the vessels’ control systems, hydraulics and complete deck equipment packages, including cranes and winches, across all four vessels.
The vessels come in addition to AQS Æge, delivered from the same shipyard in April, and a sister vessel currently under construction also set for delivery in 2026.
SHM Solutions CEO Yngve B. Myklebust highlights AQS’s commitment to innovation — “We have worked closely with AQS for several years, and here they prove once again that they are a highly forward-thinking company. It is impressive to see them choosing to standardise deliveries at such a high technical level, right from the build. They are truly going all in and setting a new standard for service vessels.”
Myklebust also highlights how AQS has contributed to the development of new equipment in several contexts — including an automatic towing hook. Another example is that they have replaced all capstans with vertical tuggers, to reduce the risk of unwanted incidents for crew on board.
— “They always seek new, innovative solutions, and we greatly value the collaboration. AQS is truly a player that drives the industry forward.“
— “For us, it has been important to choose a supplier that understands operational needs and can deliver consistent quality across the fleet. SHM has been a solid partner over time, and the choice of their solutions for these vessels is based on experience, functionality and a focus on safety and operations,” says Kim Aakervik, CTO at AQS.
