SMST Secures Contract with Aker BP for Motion Compensated Gangway

SMST, a leading provider of offshore access solutions, announce that it has been awarded a contract by Aker BP for the delivery of its Telescopic Access Bridge L-Series, a state-of-the-art motion compensated gangway. The contract includes an option for a second gangway. This advanced system will primarily support walk-to-work (W2W) operations to unmanned platforms in the Yggdrasil and Fenris areas, both located in the North Sea.

The SMST Telescopic Access Bridge will be the main evacuation route from the unmanned platforms. Therefore, the motion compensated gangway is equipped with cone mode, which is designed and certified as DNV type 1. The gangway is also equipped with the traditional bumper mode, which is certified as DNV type 2. This dual-purpose solution ensures optimal flexibility in operations. An advantage of the cone mode is the minimal energy usage of long-term connections, reducing carbon emissions.

The Telescopic Access Bridge will be installed on a new type modular Access & Cargo Tower that provides the system with extra reach, forward storage and a large operational slewing area. The new tower is outfitted with an elevated staircase, allowing for continuous access and ensuring the evacuation route. Additionally, the tower is equipped with an optional cargo & personnel elevator.

“The tower combined with this specific gangway offers W2W solutions for unmanned installations, making operations easier and safer,” says Jan Eelke van der Meulen, Sales Manager at SMST, “We look forward to be working together with Aker BP and we are grateful for the trust they placed in SMST.”
