Westcon Yards signs a letter of intent with Swedish SeaTwirl for the manufacture and installation of their new S2x offshore wind turbine and thereby confirms its ambitions in the offshore wind market.
Fabrication of the steel structures is planned at Westcon’s shipyard in Florø and then transported to Dommersnes Industrial Area for complete assembly and testing. The complete turbine is then towed to Bokn where it will be installed.
Westcon will take full responsibility for both the fabrication and installation of the turbine and thus establish itself as a complete and long-term supplier for projects within floating offshore wind.
– The green shift is underway and we at Westcon have no intention of sitting and watching. On the contrary, we have ambitions to take part in, and contribute to, building up a new Norwegian industry. This agreement with SeaTwirl therefore marks an important step for Weston’s future goals.
– We choose to keep production in Norway to show that we have faith in Norwegian industry and want to build a sustainable supply chain for this industry, comments Stian Røsdal, head of Westcon’s department for green and sustainable technology.
– Over several decades, we have proven that we are able to deliver large and comprehensive projects on competitive terms, as well as that we have an organization that is both competent and experienced across our locations. This is an important, strategic milestone for Westcon and we look forward to working with Seatwirl to promote innovative solutions also in floating offshore wind.
Seatwirl represents an innovative wind turbine where the major advantage is a simple, robust and cost-effective design that also leads to lower service and maintenance costs compared to other traditional wind turbines.
– Securing partners with the ability to support us beyond the S2x project is important to realize our vision of becoming a leading supplier to large offshore wind farms. We look forward to working with Westcon Yards, says Peter Laurits, CEO of SeaTwirl.
