WMD Secures Contract with Ambex for USV Support RIB

WMD, a UK-based naval architecture firm, announce the award of a new contract from Ambex, a provider of marine solutions and services. The contract is for the design of a custom 8-meter USV Support RIB, which will play a pivotal role in supporting Ambex’s fleet of unmanned surface vessels (USVs).

Constructed in the UK utilising high-grade marine aluminium, the USV support RIB is engineered for demanding operational environments. Propulsion comes from twin Mercury SeaPro 300 outboard engines, enabling exceptional speeds in excess of 50 knots

Key design features include:

  • Twin Shockwave S3 Suspension Jockey seats mitigate impact and fatigue
  • A robust deck-mounted track system to enable flexible equipment deployment
  • Side door access for improved operability
  • An integrated Seakeeper gyroscopic stabiliser significantly reduces vessel roll, enhancing safety and stability in challenging sea states.

This project highlights WMD’s continued commitment to delivering innovative, high-performance support vessels tailored to the evolving demands of the maritime sector.

Nikki Walker, Project Manager at WMD comments; “At WMD, we’re well known for designing larger CTVs and Fire Boats, so it’s great to showcase our smaller vessels as well, especially as they play an important role in the commercial industry and growing USV market”.
