BigLift Shipping Orders Twin Huisman Mast Cranes

Huisman will manufacture two Heavy Lift Mast Cranes for BigLift Shipping’s new vessel, combining high lifting capacity with flexible cargo-handling capabilities

Specialist heavy lifting equipment manufacturer Huisman has secured a contract with Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co., Ltd. (DSOC) to supply two Heavy Lift Mast Cranes for BigLift Shipping’s new heavy lift vessel, Happy S, a sister vessel to Happy Star. The contract further strengthens Huisman’s longstanding partnership with BigLift Shipping.

The cranes offer a maximum lifting capacity of 1,100mt each at an outreach of 23 metres, combining outstanding lifting performance with a compact footprint to maximise operational flexibility, efficiency and reliability.

Furthermore, the fully electric design, including an integrated power management system, enables efficient distribution of available power from the vessel’s grid to both cranes. The cranes are equipped with the capability to vertically sea fast the boom, allowing oversized cargo to be transported without a horizontally stowed boom limiting the available deck space.

With more than 100 mast cranes delivered worldwide, Huisman’s Heavy Lift Mast Cranes have established a strong track record in the heavy lift transport market. The first crane of its kind, delivered in 1984 for BigLift Shipping’s Happy Buccaneer, successfully served for over 40 years, reflecting the durability and reliability that have become hallmarks of the design.

The Heavy Lift Mast Cranes will be manufactured at Huisman’s production facility in Zhangzhou, China.

Johan Boer, Managing Director at BigLift Shipping, said: “The Happy S is an important investment in the future of BigLift Shipping and further strengthens our heavy lift capabilities. The Huisman cranes will provide the lifting capacity and operational flexibility required to meet the evolving demands of our customers. We are pleased to continue our successful cooperation with Huisman, a relationship that dates back to the delivery of the original cranes for the Happy Buccaneer.”

Arjan Koek, Sales Manager at Huisman, said: “This award marks an important milestone in our relationship with DSOC and BigLift Shipping. We are proud to build on the legacy of the cranes delivered for the Happy Buccaneer, which marked the start of a long and successful partnership. These new Heavy Lift Mast Cranes combine proven technology with innovative features, further strengthening BigLift Shipping’s position in the global heavy lift market.”
