Brimmond’s NetJet Aquaculture Net Cleaning Pump Completes Successful Trials with AKVA Group

Brimmond, a North-east Scotland-based engineering specialist, announce the successful completion of further trials for its NetJet ™ aquaculture net cleaning pump. The innovative pump, designed and manufactured by Brimmond, was deployed for a 60-day trial at Loch Fyne in late 2024, in collaboration with AKVA Group, the world’s largest supplier of support and services to the aquaculture sector.

The net cleaning pump was deployed to Loch Fyne in late 2024 for a 60-day trial, to test out some product improvements following an earlier project on a fish farm near Mull.

Feedback from AKVA Group during this latest trial was extremely positive, highlighting the unit’s ease and efficiency of operation, as well as Brimmond’s rapid response customer service and support.

The NetJet™ rental offering is supplemented by the firm’s comprehensive, local customer care package. Brimmond have invested in a fleet of specialist vans maintaining a stock of critical spares which are stocked at the Aberdeenshire facility so they can be rapidly deployed to provide clients with technical support and maintenance.

Managing Director of Brimmond, Tom Murdoch said: “The trial at Loch Fyne showcased the outstanding engineering of the NetJet™ and the responsiveness of our Technical and Engineering teams. Over the 60-day period, NetJet™ minimised downtime, highlighting its exceptional efficiency. While we did experience a couple of minor teething issues in what was only our second ever live field trial, our technical support team were on-site within 24 hours to resolve these. Being based in the North of Scotland enables us to respond rapidly to any technical support queries – clients tell us again and again how much they value this agile customer service.

“The extended trial period allowed our team to really put the unit through its paces and implement a few further product improvements – as we strive to provide the highest quality, most reliable, user-friendly unit on the market.

“Overall this was a fantastic opportunity for us to demonstrate not only the unit’s efficiency and reliability in a live industry setting, but also the reduced maintenance costs thanks to its exceptional build quality and responsive customer support package.”

Donald Fowler, Commercial Manager at AKVA Group Scotland, added: “Having worked with the Brimmond team on the NetJet’s second live industry outing, we were keen test it over a further extended period of time on one of our client’s facilities – a leading international fish farm operator – on the West Coast. We were extremely impressed by how easy the unit is to operate, and how quiet it is. What’s more the NetJet’s higher power output yielded superior cleaning results, enhancing efficiency. Clean nets promote better fish welfare, which is always our priority.”

Brimmond is currently the only company in the UK which offers a full 360manufacture, rental and support package for high-pressure net cleaning pumps for the offshore aquaculture sector. Developed in 2023 in conjunction with key personnel from the aquaculture sector, the NetJet™ became Scotland’s first turnkey aquaculture net cleaning tech, with Brimmond investing c.450K designing, specifying and manufacturing the high-end pump units in house.

The units were initially designed to fill a gap in the market for an affordable but high-quality net cleaning solution as a rental option, but Brimmond has since experienced exceptional demand from customers looking to purchase the units outright. The engineering specialists have adapted their business model in response, and are now offering an expanded range of NetJet ™ units available to purchase in a range of engine sizes.
