Rodman begins the construction of three Rodman 111 high-speed patrol boats for the AEAT

Rodman Polyships SAU, a renowned shipyard within the Rodman Group, specializing in the construction of fibreglass-reinforced polyester (GRP) vessels, has commenced the construction of three cutting-edge offshore patrol boats for the surveillance service of the State Tax Administration Agency.

Following the signing of the contract in January, Rodman spent the initial months dedicated to design and project planning. The shipyard has now entered the construction phase, with the successful completion of the first unit’s initial lamination phase.

The construction period for all three units spans 36 months, with the first vessel set for completion in 16 months. The remaining two boats will be delivered with an interval of 10 months between each one.

These new offshore patrol boats, known as Rodman 111, have been designed for high-speed patrols, tasked with duties such as sea patrol, suppression of smuggling, interception, boarding and searching of vessels, physical presence, and the enforcement of national and international laws. Crucially, all of these operations will be carried out with utmost consideration for the comfort and safety of the crew, which will consist of ten members.

This significant order further solidifies Rodman’s expertise, capabilities, and reputation in the design and construction of large patrol boats. The successful completion and delivery of the Rodman 138, a 43-meter tall patrol boat built using reinforced fibreglass polyester just two years ago, has cemented the trust and ongoing relationship between Rodman and the AEAT (State Tax Administration Agency).

As Rodman Polyships SAU embarks on this new endeavor, its wealth of experience, know-how, and knowledge plays a pivotal role in the construction of these new offshore patrol boats. The Rodman 111 model will undoubtedly bolster the capabilities of the State Tax Administration Agency’s surveillance service, ensuring the effective monitoring and enforcement of laws across both national and international waters.

Rodman 111: high-altitude patrol boat

With an overall length of 35.3 meters, this model of Patrol Boat has been developed by Rodman’s design, development and engineering teams, perfectly combining high performance, reliability, construction quality and navigation characteristics.

The vessels will be equipped with two marine diesel engines, which propel Waterjets with integrated gearboxes, which will allow them to reach maximum speeds of 35 knots. Each boat will have:

  • Main Engines: 2 CUMMINS engines, model QSK60-M
  • Water Jets: 2 KONGSBERG KAMEWA Waterjets, model S63-3/CA.
  • Gearboxes: 2 ZF gearboxes, model ZF 8000

The Rodman 111 has been designed for a crew of 10 people. With a range of 1,432 miles at economic speed (19 knots), they will be able to spend long periods at sea, which will be an advantage from an operational and effectiveness point of view.

The most modern navigation and electronic equipment will be installed.
