Scotland’s first turnkey aquaculture net cleaning success

A pioneering aquaculture net cleaning pump, designed and manufactured by North-east Scotland based engineering specialists, Brimmond, has successfully completed its first live industry campaign.

Brimmond’s NetJet™ has spent the last month deployed on a project with a key aquaculture firm, which operates multiple sites on the West Coast of Scotland. Managing Director of Brimmond, Tom Murdoch said: “Developing such a high-end piece of technology from initial concept through to an aquaculture net cleaning campaign on a West coast fish farm, has truly been a team effort. So, it’s fair to say that everyone at Brimmond is absolutely thrilled to see how well the NetJet™ performed during its first outing on a live industry project.

“As with all our other service offerings, our relationship with our customer extends far beyond the initial contract: we worked closely with them to establish vital details such as vessel footprint, location, and deck fastenings, connections and fittings. Throughout the project we have remained in close contact with them to provide technical support. The fact that we are based in Scotland is a huge advantage – as a local business we can respond promptly to our customers, ensuring that they can get the most value from the units.”

Brimmond is the only company in the UK which offers a full 360manufacture, rental and support package for high-pressure net cleaning pumps for the offshore aquaculture sector.

Following the identification of a gap in the flourishing aquaculture market for a rental option for net cleaning pumps, Brimmond invested c. £450K in developing the high-end pump units, NetJet™ in house. The Aberdeenshire-based firm’s engineering team designed, specified and manufactured the pump units.

The NetJet rental offering is supplemented by the firm’s customer care package. Brimmond have invested in a fleet of specialist vans maintaining a stock of critical spares which can be rapidly deployed to provide clients with technical support and maintenance if needed.
