Two new tugs for Suderman & Young equipped with SCHOTTEL systems

SCHOTTEL has received an order from Master Boat Builders, Alabama, to supply four rudder propellers for two newly built tugs for the American operator Suderman & Young Towing Company (S&Y). In addition, the tugs will be equipped with MariHub, the IoT gateway and monitoring solution from SCHOTTEL.

Kirk Jackson, President of Suderman & Young Towing Company: “We have been using drive units from SCHOTTEL in our tugs for many years. The excellent products and services from SCHOTTEL have proven themselves many times. We are pleased to have the new Rapport 2600 tugs in ours The commitment of SCHOTTEL RudderPropeller and MariHub underlines our ongoing commitment to always deliver the best available equipment in order to meet the increasing demands of our customers. “

SCHOTTEL RudderPropeller
Every tugboat is driven by two diesel-powered SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers type SRP 430 (1,650 kW each). The propellers have a diameter of 2.2 m. The ships of the Robert Allan Rapport 2600 Design achieve a bollard pull of around 52 t.

The 26 m long and 12 m wide ships will be equipped with SCHOTTEL MariHub. The system records and analyzes signals from sensors, machines and other components and transmits them to a cloud server on the mainland. With MariHub, operators can use the advantages of data-supported services, for example for performance evaluation or for high-speed data processing on board or for condition analyzes in real time.

Intelligent maintenance for higher availability
Thanks to ProCMS, the service for monitoring the drive status, MariHub can detect irregularities in the drive train at an early stage. This predictive maintenance concept increases the availability of ships considerably. At the same time, maintenance costs can be reduced and maintenance planning optimized.

The first tractor is expected to be delivered in October 2022 and the second in April 2023.
