Wight Shipyard Co (WSC) has carried out an annual service, planned maintenance and selected upgrades onboard Red Funnel Ferries’ Red Jet 7 at its Hythe Shipyard in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight.
WSC, which built Red Jet 7 in 2018, serviced the navigation systems, overhauled the waterjets, serviced the air conditioning and dehumidifier systems, and carried out a survey of the lifting equipment. In addition, the shipyard’s team completed an annual survey and service of the firefighting equipment and life rafts in accordance with International Maritime Organization and Safety of Life at Sea regulations.
“It’s fitting that we get to service Red Jet 7 which we had the privilege to build,” said Jo Daly, chief operating officer of WSC. “There can be no better endorsement than a customer coming back time and again. It signals belief in our product and the quality of our work.”
WSC took Covid-19 precautions to protect the safety of everyone involved in the £7 million ($9.6 million) project, completing it in February 2021.
“We are very pleased to continue our relationship with Isle of Wight-based Wight Shipyard Co as it services our Red Jet 7, a vessel it built in partnership with Red Funnel Ferries,” said Leanna Lakes, operations director at Red Funnel. “This is an annual requirement for maintenance and safety checks of our vessels, which is imperative to ensure the safety of our passengers and staff, and the smooth running of our fleet.”
