DGS Boats Delivers Research Vessel for Antarctic Research Missions

DGS Boats, a manufacturer of Composite HDPE high-performance vessels, announce the delivery of the DGS 999 POLAR Research Vessel to the Brazilian Navy and the Fundação de Estudos do Mar (FEMAR). Designed and manufactured by DGS Boats, this state-of-the-art research vessel will play a crucial role in the PROANTAR program, supporting scientific missions around the Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station (EACF).

DGS 999 POLAR – Built for Extremes:

  • 34′ length, 10.8′ beam, and a max displacement of 14,330 lbs
  • Composite HDPE hull (ETRH® technology) for impact resistance and durability
  • Two Mercury Marine V8 engines (500 HP total), reaching speeds of 32 knots
  • Thermally insulated cabin with heating, a galley, and a closed sanitary system
  • Advanced navigation and research equipment, including radar, sonar, and a winch for oceanographic studies
  • Autonomy of 350 nautical miles, ensuring long-range support for research operations

Beyond being a robust workhorse, the DGS 999 POLAR is a testament to Brazilian innovation, meeting Brazilian (NORMAN) and international standards (DNV, USCG, ABYC)—making it ready for operation anywhere in the world.

Currently stationed at Marina da Glória, the vessel will soon embark on its mission to Antarctica, furthering Brazil’s commitment to environmental preservation and cutting-edge scientific research.
We’re incredibly proud to be part of this project, ensuring researchers can explore, study, and protect one of the most challenging environments on the planet.
