Habbeke Shipyard Delivers SAR Vessel to DLRG

Christened ‘Klaar Kimming’, the advanced SAR vessel enters service as DLRG Wedel marks 90 years of water rescue operations.

Habbeke Shipyard has delivered a new search and rescue (SAR) vessel to DLRG Wedel (German Life Saving Association), strengthening the organisation’s emergency response capabilities on the Lower Elbe. DLRG Wedel christened its new search and rescue vessel on 30 May 2026 during a ceremony at the Hamburg Yacht Harbor in Wedel. Ute Schulte-Bracksick served as the vessel’s godmother and formally christened the boat “Klaar Kimming”, a traditional maritime expression meaning “Clear Sea”.

The ceremony carried added significance as it took place during a landmark year for the organisation. In 2026, DLRG Wedel is celebrating 90 years of water rescue operations.

Developed in close cooperation with DLRG Wedel, the new vessel is based on Habbeke’s FRC 1003 platform and has been specifically designed to support rescue operations in challenging environmental conditions.

The vessel is powered by twin Steyr Motors SE306J38 inboard diesel engines, each delivering 292hp and coupled to ZF marine gearboxes driving a HamiltonJet AVX Express waterjet propulsion system. Incorporating JetAnchor technology and remote-control functionality, the advanced system provides precise dynamic positioning and can also serve as a secondary steering station, enabling crews to maintain station accurately during rescue operations in adverse weather and challenging water conditions. “Klaar Kimming” is capable of achieving speeds in excess of 35 knots.

To enhance navigation, communications and situational awareness, the SAR craft is equipped with a comprehensive Raymarine navigation and communications suite. Vessel protection is further strengthened by a heavy-duty fendering system from Fender Innovations.
