Kewatec Hands Over ePassenger 2400 Elsnabben

Elsnabben brings zero-emission propulsion and enhanced passenger comfort to Gothenburg’s ferry network.

Finnish boatbuilder Kewatec has successfully delivered the Kewatec ePassenger 2400, Elsnabben, to Swedish public transport operator Styrsöbolaget, reinforcing the growing adoption of electric vessels within urban ferry networks.

The vessel was delivered on schedule in June 2026, exactly two years after the contract was signed in June 2024, demonstrating Kewatec’s commitment to reliable project execution and close customer collaboration throughout the build programme.

The Kewatec ePassenger 2400 is designed for 148 passengers and operated by a crew of two. The vessel is fully accessible, with practical boarding, comfortable passenger areas, an interior cabin, a sun deck, and dedicated space for bicycles.

The vessel measures 24,8 metres in length and 6,6 metres in beam. It is powered by two 180 kW Danfoss electric motors, with a total battery capacity of 299 kWh and a 130 kVA range extender. Cruising speed is 9 knots, with a top speed of 12 knots.

With its fully electric propulsion, accessible layout, and focus on passenger comfort, Elsnabben is built for reliable everyday service. Special attention has been given to crew ergonomics, particularly at the captain’s station, to support safe and comfortable operation throughout the working day.

At Kewatec, every vessel is built to meet the needs of the customer, the crew, and the people who depend on it. Elsnabben is a modern electric solution for passenger transport. It is efficient in operation, comfortable for passengers, and ready for daily service in Gothenburg.
