High-capacity Italdraghe cutter suction dredger will deepen the river channel from 2m to 6m, improving navigation on one of India’s busiest inland waterways
A new cutter suction dredger supplied by Italdraghe has commenced operations on the Hooghly River in India, supporting a major dredging programme designed to restore safe and efficient navigation on one of the country’s key inland waterways.
The project is addressing navigability issues caused by the continuous build-up of sand and sediment, which has progressively raised the riverbed over time. Dredging operations are now underway to increase the channel depth from 2m to 6m, improving access for commercial and marine traffic.
This project once again confirms Italdraghe’s long-standing experience in the design and supply of reliable dredging solutions for inland waterways, rivers, ports and environmental maintenance projects worldwide.
Designed for demanding dredging applications, the Italdraghe cutter suction dredger delivers a production capacity of up to 3,750m³/h and is capable of operating at depths of up to 14.5m. The vessel combines high productivity with the robust performance required for large-scale river maintenance projects.
The Hooghly River project further reinforces Italdraghe’s expertise in the design and supply of advanced dredging equipment for inland waterways, ports, rivers and environmental maintenance schemes.
