Remontowa to Build Polish SAR Vessel

Polish Maritime Search and Rescue Service expands fleet with advanced multi-role SAR vessel

Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. has signed a contract to build a new multi-purpose rescue vessel for the Polish Maritime Search and Rescue Service (SAR), marking a major step forward in strengthening the country’s maritime emergency response capabilities.

The contract, signed on June 23, 2026, will see the leading Polish shipyard deliver a state-of-the-art vessel designed to enhance search and rescue operations in line with international SAR standards. The vessel will support missions aimed at safeguarding human life at sea while also strengthening protections for the marine environment.

The agreement was signed by the Director of the Ministry of Interior and Development, Mr. Sebastian Kluska, and the President of the Management Board of Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A., Mr. Dariusz Jaguszewski. The ceremony was also attended by the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Mr. Arkadiusz Marchewka, responsible for maritime economy.

“Our experience of working with Remontowa Shipbuilding has been very positive. You build reliable, high-quality vessels, and I am confident that this will be the case here too,” said Arkadiusz Marchewka, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure.

“This is a great honour for us. This is the third contract we have signed in the last 30 days. Two hydrographic vessels from the SAFE programme and, today, a third vessel for the Polish state, also linked to security in the broadest sense,” said Adam Ruszkowski, CEO of Remontowa Holding S.A.

“We are doubly proud because the Sztorm vessel, which is moored alongside behind our backs, was built at the Remontowa Shipbuilding shipyard in 2012 and has been serving safely ever since,” added Mr Ruszkowski.

The new SAR vessel will be used to carry out tasks relating to maritime safety, including search and rescue, combating threats and pollution in the marine environment, fire-fighting operations, and emergency towing and rescue assistance.

The vessel, which is 65 metres long and 13 metres wide, will be powered by four generating sets, each with a capacity of 1,900 kW, enabling it to reach 15 knots.

The project is co-financed by the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and the Environment (FEnIKS) and the state budget.

The new contract is a continuation of the cooperation between Remontowa Shipbuilding and the Maritime Search and Rescue Service. In 2012, the shipyard commissioned the SAR-3000 rescue vessel, designed to carry out life-saving activities at sea, also in the most difficult hydrological and meteorological conditions. The unit remains in operation to this day.

The signing of the contract for the construction of the rescue vessel, in addition to the contract concluded in May this year for the construction of two hydrographic ships for the Polish Navy in the “Hydrograf” program, confirms the strong position of Remontowa Shipbuilding in the segment of modern specialist units supporting national security, maritime economy and environmental protection.
