New AmpRA 2900-CL battery-electric tugs will operate primarily on battery power while delivering up to 70 tonnes bollard pull
Robert Allan Ltd. has signed a contract with Cheoy Lee Shipyards in Hong Kong to design a new series of AmpRA 2900-CL battery-electric tugs, marking another step forward in harbour tug decarbonisation efforts.
The new design combines escort capability, modern styling and up to approximately 7 MWh of battery capacity, further strengthening the long-standing collaboration between the two companies. The vessels will reduce fuel consumption and maintenance requirements while supporting lower-emission port operations.
Designed for daily operation on battery power alone, the AmpRA 2900-CL class will also feature two onboard generators to extend operational flexibility and support delivery voyages when required. This provides operators with maximum flexibility.
With its installed propulsion power, the design is expected to deliver bollard pull performance of up to 70 tonnes.
Robert Allan Ltd. said the project continues the company’s tradition of innovation with Cheoy Lee Shipyards and reflects growing industry momentum toward electrified harbour tug solutions.
