Having almost five decades of experience, Sanmar has a reputation for innovation and excellence at its custom-built state-of-the-art shipyards at Tuzla and Altınova in Türkiye.
Renowned for a wide portfolio of technologically-advanced tugs based on world-leading designs from naval architects such as Robert Allan Ltd., built on demand to customers’ specific operational needs, Sanmar leads the world in the construction of tugboats, with more than 300 built to date. Leading the way to a sustainable future through technological advance, Sanmar’s range of tugs includes battery powered, LNG-fuelled, methanol, hybrid and autonomous vessels.
Also a tug operator, it prides itself on focusing on minimizing or eliminating negative environmental impact. Sanmar Shipyards works in close partnership with customers at every stage and offers unrivalled after sales and post-delivery technological support.
Hailed as the ‘Tug of the Future’, the ground-breaking electric-powered ElectRA Series of harbour tugs is the first of a new generation of emissions-free tugboats from Sanmar Shipyards that will have a major impact on cutting emissions in any busy harbour they work in. ElectRA tugs, available in a range of sizes (19-28m) and power outputs (40-85 TBP), are the result of Sanmar’s ongoing collaboration with Robert Allan Ltd and Corvus Energy to build low and no-emission tugs utilising alternative fuels and innovative technological advances to protect the environment and build a sustainable tug and towing industry.
The RAstar Class tugs are designed to provide exceptional ship-handling and sea keeping performance in exposed terminal locations. With a unique hull form, they offer significant reductions in roll amplitude and accelerations compared to conventional hull designs. Their main purpose is to support the expansion of LNG facilities at ports, assisting large ships in berthing and departing from berths, and escorting them through challenging narrow channels with extreme weather conditions. The tugs are equipped with specialized bow fendering and towing equipment to handle wave heights of up to 3 meters and wind speeds over 40 knots.
The TRAktor 3000 design incorporates a new hull form, extensively verified through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to ensure superior performance, stability, and seakeeping as per the owner’s requirements. With an impressive bollard pull of 75 tonnes and a steering force exceeding 80 tonnes, the tugs can achieve speeds of up to 13 knots and carry 126m3 of fuel oil. The tug’s optimized stern visibility and ice-strengthened hull enable effective skeg/stern-first operations, while the accommodation provides space for a crew of up to seven with well-appointed cabins on both the main and lower decks.
