Having almost five decades of experience, Sanmar has a reputation for innovation and excellence at its custom-built state-of-the-art shipyards at Tuzla and Altınova in Türkiye.
Renowned for a wide portfolio of technologically-advanced tugs based on world-leading designs from naval architects such as Robert Allan Ltd., built on demand to customers’ specific operational needs, Sanmar leads the world in the construction of tugboats, with more than 300 built to date. Leading the way to a sustainable future through technological advance, Sanmar’s range of tugs includes battery powered, LNG-fuelled, methanol, hybrid and autonomous vessels.
Also a tug operator, it prides itself on focusing on minimising or eliminating negative environmental impact. Sanmar Shipyards works in close partnership with customers at every stage and offers unrivalled after sales and post-delivery technological support.
Hailed as the ‘Tug of the Future’, the ground-breaking electric-powered ElectRA Series of harbour tugs is the first of a new generation of emissions-free tugboats from Sanmar Shipyards that will have a major impact on cutting emissions in any busy harbour they work in. ElectRA tugs, available in a range of sizes (19-28m) and power outputs (40-85 TBP), are the result of Sanmar’s ongoing collaboration with Robert Allan Ltd and Corvus Energy to build low and no-emission tugs utilising alternative fuels and innovative technological advances to protect the environment and build a sustainable tug and towing industry.
The RAmparts 2400 SX tug, a twin Z-drive, diesel-powered vessel, is expertly designed by Robert Allan Ltd. for optimal efficiency in ship-handling duties for sea-going ships. Being our best selling tug, the exclusive Sanmar design, 2400 SX, shares similarities with the ASD 24/45 & ASD 24/50 designs but boasts a 2-meter wider beam, enabling greater performance and stability with more powerful Caterpillar engines and larger Rolls-Royce Z-drives. The new versions offer varying bollard pull capacities of 60, 70, or 80 tons depending on the propulsion system chosen. The design emphasises low-manning operation with advanced machinery automation, and the accommodations can be tailored to suit different crew sizes, with optional layouts for basic day boats or full accommodation for up to six people.
The TRAktor-Z 2500SX is a highly efficient twin Z-drive propeller tug in tractor configuration, catering to both harbour ship-handling and towing duties. Its versatile design allows for customisable options based on individual owner requirements. Like the RAmparts 2400 SX, the TRAktor-Z 2500SX has been modified by Robert Allan Ltd. to align with Sanmar Shipyard’s standard production range, optimised with operational input from Sanmar’s tug operation department, and designated as “SX” for Sanmar Exclusive.
The RAstar 2900SX is a high-performance yet compact tug offering a high bollard pull of 80 tons and is optimised for efficient construction while still allowing for customisation to meet client requirements. The RAstar design has a distinctive class of ASD tugs with a unique sponsored hull form, proven through model and full-scale testing to significantly enhance escort towing and seakeeping performance. These high-powered RAstar tugs are primarily intended for demanding escort operations in exposed areas, including LNG terminals, where exceptional seakeeping capabilities are crucial.
